Let’s get ready to crumble! It’s such a simple yet perfect dessert for those colder days during the Autumn and Winter. It’s the best with custard or ice-cream or toffee sauce or cream or all of them together! Okay maybe not but ice-cream and custard to actually work…I might think that because I’m addicted to ice-cream but don’t judge it until you’ve tried it. This recipe serves 4.
Here you go…
Ingredients:The Apple
3-4 good-sized cooking apples
2 heaped tablespoons of sugar
The Crumble:
6oz of self-raising flour
3oz of butter
1 1/2oz of sugar
2-3 tablespoons of muesli or granola (optional – add if you’d like an extra crunch).
Method: Pre-heat oven to 180°C/Gas 4
1) Firstly you need to prepare the apples. Peel and then cut however you like into a pan of water (this will stop them going brown). Once you’ve cut the apples, drain most of the water off leaving just a splash at the bottom of the pan.
2) Pop the apples on the hob and cook until soft – not too mushy – when they’re done add the sugar and stir. Then leave to cool for a few minutes before you add them to your crumble dish.
3) Prepare your crumble mix. Sieve the flour in to a mixing bowl, add the butter and then rub together until the mix resembles bread crumbs. Stir in the sugar and the muesli.
4) Put the crumble mix on top of the apple. Bake for 25-35 minutes. When it looks golden brown on the top and bubbly at the sides, it’s done!
It really is best served with custard and/or ice-cream!
♥ If you want a little more flavour, you could add a handful of blackberries.
